Do you know that jiang mu (姜母) is any old ginger that is 3 years old and above (known as 老姜) while bentong ginger is specially and specifically grown in Malaysia?
Bentong’s ginger is only suitable to grow at the place which is not polluted, cooling air at the mountain, supported by the natural water from the mountain which is why it is more expensive than normal ginger. It is also known as ‘King Ginger' as the ginerose content is much higher than other types of ginger. The effectiveness of it's medicinal value is also much higher. You will find bentong ginger to be more fragrant and more spicy too.
